Art education
„The greatest scientists are artists as well“ - Albert Einstein
Artistic education fosters independence, influences communication skills, and shapes sensitivity and aptitude. Children who excel in music achieve results, achieving benefits in academics and memory tests. A working memory mechanism triggered by creativity has also been observed.
Art education
Music
The positive influence of music on human development and health was known in ancient times.
For reasons not fully understood, Homo sapiens, unlike other animals, developed music and language, which have remained parallel throughout our evolution. However, no civilization valued music as highly as the ancient Greeks. Early years of education included physical education, followed by six years of musical instruction. The Greeks considered music one of the four branches of mathematics, alongside arithmetic, geometry, and astronomy.
It's no surprise to anyone that Mozart was one of the world's greatest mathematicians, and that logic, probability, symmetry, and translation are widely used in music. Research conducted in Canada has shown that musical training significantly improved working memory in school-age individuals. American scientists have demonstrated that just a few months of practicing an instrument (piano) activated the frontal lobe, motor cortex, and brainstem, and was associated with increased neuroplasticity in the brain—structures responsible for memory and learning. Interestingly, musicians have a much thicker layer of myelin than non-musicians in certain areas, which increases brain efficiency and, in the future, prevents neurodegenerative diseases. Myelination is proportional to the number of hours spent playing an instrument. The more years we dedicate to playing an instrument, the more efficiently our brain will function. The benefits of playing an instrument are observed not only in mathematical and linguistic skills, but also emotional ones. Students have observed a decrease in aggressive behavior, increased empathy, and an increase in well-being.
Plasticity
At our school, we want to create a space for children to freely express their emotions and themselves, to create something completely new, but also to show their world.
In everyday life, creativity is demanded of adults, and creative activity, ingenuity, and innovation are promoted. The ability to create is best and most quickly cultivated from a young age. Often, we associate art with play, yet through such activities, we give children the opportunity to independently explore, investigate, and discover reality. Young children are very keen to express emotions and relieve tension through drawing, making it an extraordinary journey of self-regulation. By viewing children's work, we can often witness emerging interests and personalities. Art classes offer a unique opportunity to explore a young person's imagination and thoughts.
Creative skills (observation, creative thinking, imagination) lie dormant in every person; they just need to be stimulated and developed in the learning process.
The earlier a child begins to engage with art, the richer their culture of experiences will be. If these activities are well-conducted, they carry exceptional educational value and have a profound impact on personality development. Art lessons cultivate aesthetic sensitivity and imagination, enrich cognitive processes, and shape future tastes. Through artistic creativity, we build self-confidence, change our attitudes toward learning, and enjoy working with others. The experiences a child experiences can become motivation for further endeavors, expressing opinions, and learning to think independently.
Theater
Theatre overcomes fears and teaches self-expression, reduces stress, and helps manage one's own behavior. It familiarizes one with public speaking and builds a sense of one's own personality and self-confidence.
The beneficial effects of theatre on our well-being have long been recognized. Therefore, theatre has also been used in the field of art therapy, i.e., using the creative process to enhance a person's physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
