Emotions and relationships
Self-regulation, i.e. the process of consciously looking within oneself, assessing the situation, and reacting appropriately.
Good emotions while learning
It’s no secret that we remember emotionally charged information better and longer. This is because the amygdala, the brain’s emotional center, is strongly connected to the hippocampus, the site responsible for memory. Bower’s experiment confirmed that we remember information marked by positive emotions better and longer.
Additionally, a sense of security is an essential element of learning. Unfortunately, neither assessment nor the test-centric system fosters positive emotions, and the stress they cause blocks the flow of information between the hippocampus and the frontal lobe, effectively preventing higher-order thinking.
Relationships
The teacher-student relationship is incredibly important, and it determines how smoothly the teaching process will flow. Of course, there’s a correlation: the smaller the group, the stronger the relationship. On the other hand, we also care about the student-student relationship, so, drawing on scientific research, we decided to find the “golden mean,” which in our case means classes with a maximum of 12 students.
